Our History

A Legacy of Empowerment Fueled by Kindness and Vision

It all started with a visit to a relative's home in late 1970s. This visit set off a series of events that led to the founding of the Tauheedul Muslimeen Trust. During his visit, Dr. Kalbe Sadiq was approached by a man who took him to his humble home. There, in the dim light of an oil lamp, a young boy was diligently studying. The man introduced the boy as his son, explaining that the boy was bright and hardworking but lacked the means to continue his education. Dr. Sadiq was deeply moved. He spoke with the boy and was impressed by his intellect and determination. He saw the boy's potential and knew that with the right support, he could excel and lift his family out of poverty. Without hesitation, Dr. Sadiq wrote to his acquaintance, the late Mr. Jafar Ali Aseel in Mumbai, asking for help to fund the boy’s education. Mr. Aseel graciously agreed, sponsoring the boy for two years. This kindness allowed the boy to complete his graduation with excellent marks..

This incident opened Dr. Sadiq’s eyes to a larger issue: many children from marginalized backgrounds were being denied the opportunity for education. He began identifying other deserving children and connecting them with benefactors who could support their education. In 1984, he brought together diverse professionals from the education sector to form the Tauheedul Muslimeen Trust (TMT), a non-profit organization dedicated to the educational, social, and material upliftment of underprivileged communities. TMT's mission was to use education as a tool to combat ignorance and poverty.

TMT’s journey began with Unity College, established in 1987 in a small, rented room with basic facilities and a handful of students. The early days were challenging, particularly in changing parents' attitudes towards education. However, through the persistent efforts of TMT members and support from the community, attitudes shifted, and the noble vision of the trust gained widespread acceptance. A decade later, TMT established the Unity College Second Shift, starting with nine students and aimed at providing free education to underprivileged children. Today, 40 years later, both Unity College and Unity College Second Shift have grown remarkably. They now serve 3,500 students with a world-class academic program, expert faculty, and state-of-the-art facilities. Beyond Unity College, TMT operates other educational and medical institutions and runs various charity programs. Each milestone achieved is a testament to the unwavering support of donors who believed in the dream of providing disadvantaged children with the invaluable gift of education As TMT continues to grow and evolve, it remains deeply grateful to all those who have supported its mission, turning a simple act of kindness into a legacy of empowerment and hope
